Streamlining GB to NI Trade with the New Trader Goods Profile (TGP)

Westmond Logistics are here to help you prepare for the Windsor Framework changes.

As part of the Windsor Framework, new arrangements are being introduced for moving goods between Great Britain (GB) and Northern Ireland (NI). These changes, effective from 31st March 2025, aim to simplify trade while ensuring compliance. A key component of this is the new Trader Goods Profile (TGP), and we are here to help you understand and make use of this valuable tool!

What is the Trader Goods Profile (TGP)?

The TGP is a free online service designed to store information about the goods your business regularly moves from GB to NI. Think of it as a place where all your product details are kept together.  Having a complete and accurate TGP will significantly streamline your customs processes and save you time when the new regulations take effect.

Key Benefits of the TGP:

  • Simplified Declarations: For eligible goods "not at risk" of entering the EU, UK Internal Market Scheme (UKIMS) authorisation, combined with your TGP, allows you to use the Internal Market Movement Information (IMMI) instead of a full customs declaration. This means less paperwork and faster processing.
  • Reduced Data Entry: Your TGP pre-populates IMMI data fields on the Trader Support Service (TSS) portal or your own software, minimising manual input and reducing the risk of errors.
  • Time Saving: By storing your product information in one place, the TGP eliminates the need to repeatedly enter the same data for each shipment.
  • Free and Accessible: The TGP is a free service provided by HMRC, accessible through GOV.UK and, for TSS users via the TSS portal.

How Does the TGP Work?

Each UKIMS-authorised trader has a unique TGP.  It stores essential product details such as:

  • Goods description
  • Commodity code
  • Product reference
  • Country of origin
  • Category of goods
  • Supplementary units (if required)

For businesses authorised before 19th June 2024, HMRC has pre-populated the TGP with data from the previous 12 months of trade, making setup even easier.

Accessing TGP:

The TGP is now live, giving you the opportunity to access your TGP, verify its accuracy, and familiarise yourself with the system before the new rules come into effect. This proactive approach will ensure a smooth transition in 2025.

Visit Manage your Trader Goods Profile to start setting up your profile.  You will need your Government Gateway account and EORI number.  Specific instructions are available on the webpage depending on whether or not you are already UKIMS-authorised.
